What You Need To Know About A Sinus Infection

Sinus infections are quite common, especially in the winter. There are many people who suffer from sinus infections and either don't know what it is or don't know what kind of treatment they can get and so they go on being miserable. Here are some things that you should know about a sinus infection.

What Is A Sinus Infection?

A sinus is infection is just what is sounds like, an infection that has affected the sinuses. What happens is that the person usually starts out with a cold. Their sinuses get clogged with the mucous but for some reason the sinuses are unable to drain. Rather than get drainage from the nose, the mucous sits in the back of the sinuses and becomes infected. The longer the infection sits in the sinuses the more serious it will become. The sinuses need to be drained or the infection needs to be treated for any type of relief.

What Does A Sinus Infection Feel Like?

A sinus infection can be incredibly painful. Usually it affects the ears, teeth and head in general. To start out you might just have a headache. The headache will feel worse if you bend down or turn your head to put any pressure on it. This is because the mucous is putting pressure on your forehead causing a headache. Over time you might start to notice that your ears are hurting too. The sinuses are connected to the ears, so it is not uncommon to get an ear infection as well. Additionally, you might notice that you have tooth ache. It can become so severe that you feel like you have multiple teeth that have cavities and need a root canal. This is not because you actually have a cavity as well as you have a terrible sinus infection.

How Do You Treat A Sinus Infection?

The treatment for a sinus infection may vary a bit from person to person. In some cases you can treat the infection without medical intervention. The goal is to drain the sinuses, in so doing you can probably rid your sinuses of the infection. Take lots of hot showers with a lot of steam, use a humidifier, and consider using a neti pot to drain the sinuses.

If this doesn't work you can get an antibiotic from a medical clinic, assuming that the infection isn't viral.

These are just a couple things you need to know about a sinus infection.
